A BEACH AND A BALL

Saturday, D and I took a little drive down to the coast. He had found a pair of motorcycle chaps for sale and "they were too good a bargain to pass up" so we went to get them. This was our first visit down to the coast since Ike messed everything up in September. We weren't in the Galveston area, but farther south in the Surfside area. What we saw broke our hearts. Many, many homes still a mess. I couldn't bring myself to take many pictures of them. I'm sure many of them were vacation homes, and not actually where people live, but still it's someone's home.
These homes are right on the beach

I'm pretty sure this sand is supposed to be on the beach, not bulldozed up off the road

It was a cloudy day. Maybe a sunnier day would've made it a little less dreary.

This is a pic of the sprawling refinery's around the area. I believe most gasoline in the US is refined here.

Saturday night, J went to his girl's Brigade Ball. Brigade is what I'd call pom pom squad back in the old days. I wasn't in pom, but was a band nerd/baton twirler. Bet you'd like to see pics of me twirling. Unfortunately, very few exist. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, Brigade Ball. It's kinda like prom....the girls get all fancied up and the guys wear a tux. He's the cute couple

Don't they clean up well? I don't know what J said to crack her up, but this is what they usually look like

It was cold! Well, cold for here; probably in the low 40s during the picture taking. The girls were frozen by the time we were finished. I think there were 12 couples in all. We loved Js Tuxedo, but it was almost too burnt orange for us (if you know what I mean). We'll be doing it all over again in April for his prom. Maybe he can get a lovely crimson tuxedo this time.

I'm finished with my Beth Moore Esther homework already and have started week two. I think the next three videos will be the one's I attended during the filming. We'd go more often, but it's a huge traffic hassle to get there. I love this study and think it's my favorite. I say that each time.

Happy Monday!

A RANDOM PICTURE (IMAGINE THAT!)

I've been pretty good at taking a picture everyday. I'm not posting them all but here's an odd one

Minnie LOVES the vacuum! Isn't that odd? She will hear me getting it out and follow me around until I vacuum her. She's also not afraid of the push vacuum either. I can vacuum all around where she's sitting and she'll just look at me. Bailey, on the other hand, IS afraid of it. She'll bark at it and run away. But she's not afraid of the lawn mower. I usually do the mowing in the backyard and she chases me, barks at me, gets in front of me but isn't scared of it.

Pets are so weird.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHORDIE!

Shordie is what my bff Darlene and her daughter Brittani called Jordan when he was a little sprout. This post started off as a birthday post to him, but I'm feeling a little weepy today thinking about "stuff" and I might change my mind and blog about her instead. Yep, I'll be right back......

It all started last night when I was going thru the photo albums looking a cute pic of Jordan in honor of his birthday Saturday. Here he is at 10 months walking, er, running. We should have known right then he was going to keep us on our toes.

While I was looking at the albums, I came across so many pics of our friends from OKC. We've known the S family since 1985. We were in SS class with them and we have remained best friends with them in spite of us moving seven times. They were Clint's first visitor's when he was born in Tulsa. They made several trips to Midland to see us and it was like a dream come true in 1997 when we moved back to OKC. We bought a house a few streets away from them and our kids, for the first time, were in school together. Here's a pic of D & B and J and me in 1991.

Anyway, they started calling him Shordie, rhymes with Jordie. B got in trouble in KG's class in 5th grade for calling him that. She thought B was insulting him. I had to explain it was a loving nickname, not an insult. We still call him that and they always do. I miss them terribly. We try to get a quick visit in as we pass thru on our way to Tulsa during the holidays. Here they are at Christmas.

I admire my bff Darlene so much. She's been a special ed. teacher in public school for over 20 years. And she's married to Steve lol.

We took J out to birthday dinner at Fogo de Chau. That's the ridiculously expensive Brazilian meat restaurant. You know, they bring the slabs of meat to your table and serve you. Yum, but does anyone really need that much meat at one sitting? Clint gave him gifts in the Hello Kitty bag and a hilarious "little girl" birthday card. Don't know what he was thinking, but it was really funny. Jordan was a very good sport too. Paybacks though......

I have a feeling his senior year will fly by now that it's mid January. You can bet I'll be whining to you a lot and will ask you to pray for me.

High today....75!

TAGGED, 4TH FOLDER, 4TH PIC

valerie tagged me for today. The 4th picture in my 4th folder is

MY HUBBY WATER SKIING! This is from July 2005 which would make him 44 and still an awesome skier. I remember telling him he still looked impressive out there but he said it was a lot harder than when he was 24! I remember going to the lake when we were in our 20's, before kids, and spending the entire DAY skiing. I haven't skied since I tore my ACL snow skiing in 2002 except for one time when I was out with Charlett and I insisted on it. I used two skies instead of one slolam. I did fine and was proud to say I could still do it. Hubby wasn't happy, but, oh well. He wasn't there. tee-hee.

I'm tagging Linda, Beverly, Allison S. & Cara. Choose the 4th folder where you keep your pics, choose the 4th pic, post it and explain it. Then tag 4 people.

Happy Friday....tomorrow is J's 18th birthday! Be the way, he went back to the Dr. for his final shoulder check, see http://sooneraggiemom.blogspot.com/2008/12/jordans-injury-update.html He is doing okay now with just a little pain. The Dr. remarked again Jordan was very lucky to not have done serious damage to his nerve. Not to discount the Dr. but I believe the Great Physician had a lot to do with it!

THE NEW, IMPROVED BEDROOM

As promised, I am posting pics today of Jordan's bedroom exactly 4 months after Hurricane Ike. There have been some stressful moments, mostly financial concerns with the repairs, but all in all, we have been extremely blessed. God placed a Godly contractor in our path who in turn used Godly workers. There are still many homes in our neighborhood with tarps on the roofs. The homes in the cul-de-sac down the street that suffered such devastating damage are about half repaired. However, people in Galveston are still suffering. The damage there is completely unbelievable. Insurance issues, FEMA issues, wind storm insurance (who knew there was such a thing?), unemployment, people are really hurting. Tourism is slowly coming back with the arrival of the cruise ships but it will take years for things to be anywhere close to normal.

So without further ado.......

Notice the beautiful fan, with it's straight blades. And no insulation in sight!

We ended up going with carpet instead of wood. Insurance "paid" for the flooring in two bedrooms, the hall and our tv room. That still left the master bedroom and the third bedroom plus two bathrooms that wasn't paid for. It was going to cost over $10,000 to put wood down. Thank goodness we love our carpet!

As I mentioned a few blogs ago, before Bailey, there was "RockythebeautifulSheltie". I have figured out the scanner and ta-da, here he is. He was only 7 when he had a ruptured disk in his back. Surgery might have helped him, but there was no guarantee it would work. With much sadness, we put him down. (Bawling now, sorry.)

Didn't mean to be a downer after such good news with the house repairs but I guess that's part of life. The good and the bad.

In honor of Brandon's birthday, here's a picture Clint has in his bedroom (easy for me to get to it quickly). What is it about my sons and wigs? The handsome dude on the left is Brandon. Happy Birthday yesterday. This is from 2001 at Falls Creek, Jr. High retreat. Now that I've figured out the scanner, there's no telling what I'll post here!

Gotta jet....photo albums are calling my name!

SOMETIMES I GET STUCK ON A TITLE

A title for my blog, that is.

We had such a fun weekend! We ended up not going to the youth bon-fire. It was windy and hubby got home late. We went out to dinner with friends instead. Saturday was Meg's bridal shower. Her 18 yr. old sister and two other friends were the hostesses. I'm pretty sure when I was 18 or 19, I could not have pulled off such a feat. Look at this spread they had for us:

The cakes came from the grocery store! I couldn't believe they weren't from a fancy, schmancy bakery. Here's a pic of Meg & her mom, Kim. She is one of my closest friends here. I'm so thankful for her friendship. Truly a blessing to me.

You would never know this gal could have been killed in the "brick incident" in May. We laugh at how the press referred to it as that.

Sunday at church, we commissioned the folks going to the new campus. Church will be held in a school for them for a couple of years while the church is built. It was odd looking at them knowing they are on a mission of sort. They'll leave their comfy pews for school chairs. The set up crew will begin at 6:30 AM every Sunday morning to set up for the service. Then they have to take it all apart and put everything back for the school.

I'd appreciate your prayers today for a couple of things. Hubby's mom is having some health issues. She was diagnosed with neuropathy a few years ago. She spends most of her time in a wheel chair/scooter but can still get around with a walker when she needs to. She had a procedure done last week that was supposed to help her, but to make a long story short, it didn't work. They now have to decide what to do next. She's very discouraged because this was kind of a last ditch effort to help her not be in so much pain.

I woke up Sunday morning with TMJ. I have not had it since 1999 and was pretty surprised when it came back. It went away Sunday but is back today, much worse. It hurts. Alot.

Finally, congrats to my amazing nephew, David, on his new job. Praise the Lord!

Happy Tuesday!

A NEW DAY!

The Sooners lost (again). I live in Texas (still).

The good news? I finished in 4th place out of 23 in my College Pick'em game. Most importantly, I beat my buddy Steve who makes me play every year!

I've been taking a picture every day. Maybe I should make a new blog just for pictures. Nope, that would be one more place I HAVE to go. I took this picture on Wed. I couldn't get the whole sky but it was beautiful.

This is what Bailey looked like during the game last night
And her playing with her bone...daring Minnie to steal it
I'm going to got take pics of Jordan's room as soon as I finish here. I'll post them next week.

We have a lot going on this weekend. Tomorrow I'm going to a bridal shower for a sweet, sweet girl. She has an amazing testimony and I'll try to make it fast. One night in May, she was driving home and a kid threw a brick at her car and it hit her in the face! She was able to pull over (she was only minutes from her house, in a lovely, safe neighborhood) and call her parents. After several surgeries, she's left with just a small scar. It was all over the news and if I can figure out how, I'll post a link to the first Sunday back at church. She's an amazing gal and gives God all the glory. The TV station used to have a link, but they've taken that particular one off. Odd how they kept up the initial story, the followup and even the arrest of the kid that did it but took down the one filmed inside church. Anyway, that's another post all together. Her shower is tomorrow and I don't know what to wear!

Tonight, we're going to a youth bonfire.

I won't be able to breath for days.

Sunday at church, we're commissioning the 60 or so people that are going to start our new campus.

And finally, I'm posting a song for my sweet friend Marcey. He knows my name. Not only does He know our name, but all our heart's desire.

Happy Friday everyone!

BEAT THEM 'GATORS!!!

I can't believe the OSU chick beat me to an OU post. In my defense, the weather has been wonderful again today and I've been goofing off outside.

I went to Youtube to find a fun video to post. I then proceeded to sit here for about an hour watching them all! Do you ever do that? (totally unrelated, but I've spent many hours watching GodTube and have actually had church right here at the computer). Anyway, I picked one I liked and then couldn't figure out how to get it over here so I'll just settle with a picture:

It's been pretty rough around here lately. The Longhorn fans are stil pouting about the Big 12 Championship game. One of our worship leaders is also from Oklahoma and after Texas won back in Sept. someone threw a UT shirt at him during welcome time. By the third service, he had their number and managed to turn the shirt upside down! Last night at practice, two gals wore their Florida shirts just to get him. I won't tell you if I had on an OU shirt; what do you think?

Hubby will not watch the game if they start losing. He'll pace, go outside, go to the computer, anything to get away from the game. I will watch every play, yelling my head off, just in case it helps them.

I'm currently in 5th place in my college pick'em game. :)

BOOMER SOONER!!!!

WHAT AN ATTITUDE SHE HAS!

I'm talking about Bailey the dog. She's so different from any dog we've ever had before. You knew there would be lots of pics of her and the cat when I started this "take a picture everyday" thing, right? Last night she was sitting in my lap (yes, she's 50 pounds and insists on being a lap dog). I picked up one of her bones and acted like I was going to give it to Minnie, the cat. Bailey went nuts! She jumped down, chased the cat and got all huffy. She then proceeded to chew on her bone the rest of the night just in case anyone tried to take it away. Geez, take a chill, dog.
Thank you for praying for Lauren. She's still very sad but Jordan says she's getting better everyday. I can't imagine how traumatic the whole ordeal was. I could go into a long post here about our beautiful Sheltie we had but I would depress you all. We had to put him down unexpectedly and that's all I'll say. Then we got "Miss attitude" and things haven't been the same around here. We got a new printer/scanner Sat. and when I figure out how to scan photos, I'll post one of RockythebeautifulSheltie. It's one word lol.
I said weeks ago I would be taking pics of Jordan's new, improved bedroom. Improved in the fact the ceiling isn't falling onto the ceiling fan anymore. Maybe tomorrow. First, I'll have to actually clean the room. It's not even a month old and already has that teenager look to it.
Happy Tuesday!

IS IT REALLY JANUARY?

I don't know about the weather in your neck of the woods, but at my house, it was downright hot today!! I love it!!! I am NOT a cold weather person and I'd be happy as a clam if every day was like today. I worked out in the yard, pulled weeds, clipped some out of control vines and sweated like it was summer. I almost made a pitcher of lemonade but settled for iced tea instead. I think the high on Monday will be 50, back to reality.

Something terrible happened to J's girlfriend today. She got a Yorkie puppy for Christmas and it drowned in their pool today. Please pray for her as she deals with this. In fact, add her family to your prayer list. Her dad lost his job in November and hasn't had any leads at all. Her name is Lauren.

Here's my picture of the day

It's my hubby!

Tomorrow is Sunday. I can't wait to get back to church. Last week we were on the road. The week before that, our Pastor was gone and it just wasn't the same. The Sunday before that was the trip to the ER instead of church
(http://sooneraggiemom.blogspot.com/2008/12/please-pray-for-my-cheerleader.html) . Choir is off tomorrow so I get to relax and enjoy the praise team. Have a great day everyone!!

PICS 1/2 & 2

I'm going to try to do the daily picture thing, but don't hold your breath for one everyday. I've already started off kinda iffy. I took the fireworks pics at about 11:45 Dec. 31st so I'm calling it 1/2. The pic of C. was taken a few minutes ago on the 2nd. He's supposed to have some reading finished by Monday and is just now starting it (Friday). He's taking a mini-mester during Christmas break.

The fireworks pic was taken in front of our house. Fireworks are legal where I live because we are in an unincorporated area. So every New Year's and July 4th, our neighborhood looks like a city park. People spend a fortune on fireworks! One of J's friend's dad manages some stands so their fireworks were free! They had gi-enormous ones! Bailey and Minnie were so scared we didn't see Minnie until she came out for breakfast yesterday morning. Bailey sat outside with us in July but for some reason, she was really scared this time so I took her in. Plus, it was a little chilly for me too (any time it gets below 60, I'm chilly. wimpy, I know).
