Hubby and I took a drive Saturday afternoon. We had meant to go look at the bluebonnets before now but didn't get around to it. I've lived in Houston five years now and have to admit, the "looking at the bluebonnets" didnt' mean much to me when I first moved here. I've now learned more about them, that Lady Bird Johnson "planted" them and they are beautiful. We also should've gone a couple of weeks ago, because there weren't many left. We drove from Tomball to Giddings. A short note about Giddings. The first time we drove through there, I saw a sign that said "Dimebox" --->. Now in the back of my mind I can remember my aunt Betty and Granddad talking about Dimebox, TX and insisted that Dewayne TURN HERE to go there. To make a long story short, we found the historical society that directed us to an old, old cemetary in which I found my great grandparents and other relatives! Maybe I'll blog about that someday. Back to the story, we wanted to eat lunch at a BBQ place Dewayne had been to before. It was a little after 3:00 and the sign on the door said they were open til 4:00 on Sat. They lied. They were already closing. We drove on to Bastrop and pulled into a place called the Roadhouse. All I can say is YUM!! Old fashioned (greasy) burgers and fries. Definitely my kind of place. I've been on WW four weeks and this is the the first time I strayed. Probably ate 30 or more points in that one sitting. We then saw the "lost pines" forest. It is the furthest east pine trees grow wild in the U.S., hence the name "lost pines". Very pretty. We then drove to La Grange. I didn't see ZZ Top anywhere. We then passed through Round Top, which must be THE place for antiques. We saw the Cadillac Museum and the Jersey Barnyard. We also saw the Cotton Gin Museum. I didn't have my camera to take pics of these interesting things, but I will next time. The most bizarre thing I saw however, was in my neighbor's yard. I've never seen a swarm of bees in a tree before, but there is one and it's right outside my kitchen window! Scary!
